SS-31, also known as elamipretide or MTP-131, is a synthetic four-residue peptide in the Szeto-Schiller peptide family. Its sequence is D-Arg–2′,6′-dimethylTyr–Lys–Phe–NH₂, with an amidated C-terminus and a D-arginine residue.
Published laboratory studies characterize SS-31 in cardiolipin-containing membranes and mitochondrial preparations. The cited primary study examines its interaction with cardiolipin and the cytochrome c/cardiolipin complex.
