Melanotan 2
Research Use Only | Not for Human Consumption
A synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), supplied in lyophilized form.
Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic analog of α-MSH that has been examined in preclinical and in vitro research for its interactions with melanocortin receptor subtypes (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R).

A synthetic analog of α-MSH developed as a melanocortin receptor research compound
What is Melanotan 2?
Melanotan 2 originated from melanocortin research at the University of Arizona in the 1980s. Scientists there were investigating synthetic analogs of α-MSH to characterize melanocortin receptor binding affinity in cell-culture models.
An earlier compound, Melanotan 1, had a short half-life in laboratory assays. Researchers modified its structure to create Melanotan 2—a cyclic heptapeptide analog. Subsequent investigations characterized its interactions across multiple melanocortin receptor subtypes.
Since then, Melanotan 2 has appeared in peer-reviewed preclinical publications examining melanocortin receptor pharmacology in cell culture and rodent models. This product is intended for research use only.
What is Melanotan 2 studied for?
The following research areas represent documented studies available in the scientific literature. We make no claims regarding the benefits, efficacy, or therapeutic applications of this product.
MC1R Binding Research
In vitro studies have examined MT-2's binding affinity and receptor activation at the melanocortin-1 receptor subtype.
α-MSH Analog Characterization Research
Published investigations have characterized MT-2 as a cyclic, superpotent analog of α-MSH relative to the native linear peptide in laboratory assays.
Central Melanocortin Pathway Research
Preclinical studies have examined central MC3R and MC4R signaling in rodent models of food intake and energy balance.
MC4R Signaling Research
Published research has investigated melanocortin-4 receptor agonism in preclinical central-nervous-system models.
How should Melanotan 2 be stored?
All of our products are manufactured using the Lyophilization (Freeze Drying) process, which ensures that our products remain 100% stable for shipping for up to 3-4 months.
Once the peptides are reconstituted (mixed with bacteriostatic water), they must be stored in the fridge to maintain stability.
After reconstitution, the peptides will remain stable for up to 30 days.
Certificate of Analysis
All Melanotan 2 batches are independently tested by a third-party laboratory for purity and identity verification via HPLC with UV detection coupled with Mass Spectrometry.
